Bodegas Montebaco is located in the province of Valladolid, between the towns of Valbuena de Duero and Pesquera de Duero, in a valley with an altitude between 840 and 900 meters, with limestone slopes and generally clay-limestone soils. The altitude and soil give it its own characteristics and make it “An island in the Ribera del Duero”. Montebaco wines are born there, wines with personality made from nine neighboring but incomparable plots.
The Monte Alto farm is crossed by the Jaramiel stream that flows thirty kilometers further down, into the Duero River. On the Estate, both the houses and the warehouses have been maintained with stone and adobe construction. Some structures have been converted taking advantage of those that were on the agricultural-livestock property, preserving the walls, some almost a meter wide. These constructions keep very well the optimal characteristics to preserve the wine, integrating and always taking care to harmonize the aesthetic with the technological.
Bodegas Montebaco has always had a defined objective, the creation of high quality aged wines. These wines stand out for their essential aging process in oak barrels, achieving an admirable fusion between fruit and wood. The winery’s philosophy is based on respect for the environment and the environment that surrounds it. The aim is to allow the wines to authentically reflect their origin. The importance of our terroir is based on the conviction that each strain can only be harvested in a specific place and at a specific time.
The strains grown include the varieties of Merlot, Grenache, Malbec and mainly, Tinto Fino, which constitutes the basis of our viticulture with 53 hectares. The planting of these vines began in 1987. Since then, we have carried out root and varietal grafts in the field, highlighting the crucial importance of the provenance of the wood used. The latter is obtained from local vineyards that have been carefully mass-selected by our technical department. Special attention is paid to the productive and quality characteristics that distinguish the fine red wine from this region compared to other Tempranillo clones grown in different geographical areas of Spain.

All cultivation operations and the meticulous selection of planting soils are aimed at regulating the vigor of the plant, thus achieving low production harvests (4,000 Kg/Ha, that is, between 1.5 and 2 Kg per plant) with highly interesting concentrations.
Tillage is mechanized between the lines, and manual in the rows, minimizing the use of herbicides as much as possible. Furthermore, phytosanitary treatments are limited to what is strictly necessary and products of natural origin, recognized as ecological, are preferred. As for the fertilization of the vineyard, it is carried out with peat biannually, restricting it to what is essential and always in accordance with the calculations derived from the foliar and petiolar analyzes carried out throughout the vegetative cycle. Our vineyard undergoes various pruning works, including winter pruning, short, two buds, and green pruning during the months of May and June for effective control of production.
The harvest takes place once the ripening date has been set. Through strict controls, only completely ripe and healthy clusters are selected in the vineyard itself. Finally, the grapes are transported to the winery in boxes with a capacity of 20 kg.

The range of Montebaco wines is not the classic one from Ribera del Duero (young, aged, reserve…) it is guided more by the origin of the grape and how the wine is made:
Montebaco de Finca is the flagship, a wine made from different plots of Finca Monte Alto with Tempranillo grapes, with a little more time in the barrel, it can be said that it is the most classic of the range, more Ribera.
Selección Especial is a wine that is not produced every year, only in the vintages in which the characteristics to make it are present, with a very small circulation between 5,000 and 6,000 bottles.
Montebaco Parcela Cara Norte is a 100% Tempranillo wine from organic farming on a single plot, which is on a slope that reaches almost 900 meters in altitude, with very limestone soils and a fairly steep slope.
Semele is made with 95% Tempranillo and 5% Merlot. In this wine, the balance between fruit and wood is sought, it is aged in barrels for 12 months.
Montebaco Rosado has been made with Merlot grapes (between 25% and 50%) and the rest Tempranillo. Fermented in French oak barrels and matured for 2 months on lees in a stainless steel tank before bottling.
Montebaco Rueda is a white made with Verdejo and Sauvignon grapes selected in the Rueda Designation of Origin. The objective is to obtain a wine with the aromatic intensity and complexity of the Verdejo and Sauvignon variety: notes of tropical fruit, along with its herbaceous character. Corporeal, with an elegant bitter final touch.
